Kalasatama digital twins

Ready

The project carried out by the City of Helsinki produces digital twin city models of the Kalasatama area.

What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?

The project involves experimenting with the use of the digital twin concept covering the entire life cycle of built environment.

Objective: Kalasatama digital twins city information models

In the experiment, digital twins city information models will be created of the Kalasatama area. Based on open data, the digital twins build a platform for the life cycle processes and planning, testing, application and services in Smart city development.

What is done in this project?

In the project, detailed digital twin models of the Kalasatama area will be created by using the latest modelling technology; a semantic model according to the CityGML standard and a triangle mesh model.

The data about the Kalasatama area will be shared via the City of Helsinki service infrastructure as open data to all actors within the built environment during its life cycle.

What are the expected results of the experiment?

All results and products will be published in online services as reports and open data. The results will be used as an innovation platform for the over 30 Smart projects within the framework of the Smart Kalasatama project and as a test and development platform for the simulations and service production of the City of Helsinki.

Thanks to open data services, the results have an enormous potential for development during a period of several years.

Who benefits?

The experiment benefits all actors within the life cycle of built environment.
