Remote monitoring to facilitate the emptying of cesspits

The experiment conducted by Pirkanmaan Jätevesipalvelut looks for an effective model for the remote level monitoring of cesspits.

What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?

The need to empty cesspits in sparsely populated areas sometimes causes trouble to both residents and service providers. The residents may not know when to order the emptying service, resulting in overflowing cesspits. This can cause damage to the property of the resident. For the waste water company, overflows cause urgent, unplanned work, i.e. ineffective logistics.

The project looks for a reliable and cost-effective solution for remote water level monitoring of covered cesspits.

Objective: The remote monitoring system alerts when the container is filling up

The objective is to allow the waste water company to monitor the water level in cesspits by using a remote monitoring system. This would relieve the resident of the need to order the emptying service, and the service provider would be able to anticipate the cesspit filling up and consequently, plan more efficient routes for the vehicle.

What is done in this project?

In the experiment, various methods of remote monitoring of the water level in cesspits and data transfer methods are tested in field conditions and by using different methods of installation.

Who benefits?

The experiment benefits both the companies that empty cesspits and the residents of sparsely populated areas. It will provide the residents with an effortlessly functioning system for cesspit waste removal at a cost-effective price. At the same time, it helps to protect the environment and reduce the carbon footprint.
