More information to Building Information Models (BIM)

Ready

In the project carried out by Eurostep Oy, BIMs are enriched by adding lifecycle data using application programming interfaces.

What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?

In the project, we aim to find out how model-based information on built environments can be further processed by using the lifecycle data necessary for building maintenance. We study the types of support that lifecycle standards can provide using application programming interfaces.

Objective: Consistency of information on the built environment

The objective is to start a conversation on the development of the consistency of information on built environments by using lifecycle standards when using BIMs.

What is done in this project?

In the project, we will implement a cloud-based testing environment in which different actors can test APIs in managing the lifecycle data of buildings.

The stages of the project:

1. Definition of lifecycle support for BIM-IFC objects based on the lifecycle properties defined in the ISO PLCS standard.

2. Creation of a cloud-based testing environment.

3. Publication of the REST API that allows other actors (software companies, end user organisations) to enrich the BMI objects with lifecycle properties (e.g. versioning, validity relations, lifecycle outlook, type-individual dependencies, lifecycle events).

Expected results?

We hope that the experiment will enhance the awareness of the operators in the sector (software companies, BIM experts, property owners) on how APIs based on open standards can create new business opportunities and improve the quality of data in the field of construction projects and maintenance.

Who benefits?

The results of the experiment benefit both software companies and operators responsible for property management.
