Espoo is developing smoother infrastructure-related exchange of information

Ready

Several different parties are involved in designing, building and maintaining infrastructure in Espoo. The city is developing an information portal and user interface through which information would be exchanged more smoothly between projects and be made accessible to all parties involved.

What kind of problem is this project trying to solve?

The city infrastructure is developed, built and maintained by several different parties and through various projects, and information is not always conveyed adequately between the various actors. The information management processes used in the city’s projects need to be streamlined and defined more clearly. Moreover, different parties involved in construction projects should be capable of exchanging information easily. Information should also be transferred seamlessly from one system to another.

The information portal project is defining the information management processes used in the city’s projects and maintenance cases. In addition, it includes an agile process for designing and building a web interface corresponding to the end users’ wishes. The interface would allow different people and systems to exchange information during a project.

Objective: exchanging information smoothly and making it available to everyone

The project aims to facilitate the exchange of information, to digitise information and to improve interaction between parties designing, building and maintaining infrastructure, as well as promoting open access to information for all parties.

The objective is also to map and automate routine work stages, boost the efficiency of operations and achieve savings. The project’s source code, documentation and results will be published openly and made freely available for use.

What is being done in this project?

- Defining the information management processes used in the city’s projects and maintenance cases.
- Creating a web interface through an agile design and building process in which the end users are participating.
- Publishing the project’s source code, documentation and results openly and making them freely available for use.
- Information portal architecture:
