Virtual natural environment to help in designing built environments

Ready

The experiment conducted by Plehat Oy brings the natural annual rhythm into the design process.

What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?

The changing seasons and changes they bring in the natural environment are not yet fully understood in designing built environments. While the landscape and conditions change according to the annual rhythm, design programs do not yet allow the design model to be viewed in the appearance it has during the changing seasons.

Objective: Attention to the dynamics of nature in design

The objective of the project is to make it possible to pay attention to the natural annual rhythm in the design process and thus improve the total quality of design in the long run.

What is done in this project?

The problematics of modelling vegetation will be investigated and solutions will be suggested to import the existing design material into a game engine environment that would allow the modelling of dynamic features. In the project, working methods and workflows to connect the data models and game engines are developed. These will make it possible to present and study the dynamic characteristics of natural environments.

What are the expected results of the experiment?

We hope that the project will result in tools that will provide better understanding to all levels of designing, construction and decision-making.

Who benefits?

The new working methods will benefit designers, decision-makers and interest groups in various sectors.
