BIM models in building inspections and the interaction process
Sova3D Oy, Gravicon Oy and the Building Control department of the City of Vantaa are cooperating to complete an experimental project that utilises IFC models in many phases of the building control process.
The first goal is to collect 3D IFC data from the designers and utilise the data in the interaction between the designer, building control authority and the party undertaking the project.
The same data are also used in the examination related to the cityscape as a whole. The first phase will be completed as part of the Lupapiste.fi process through Sova3D Oy’s integrated Virva3D extension.
The second goal is to use the IFC model as part of the computer-assisted inspection process. Gravicon Oy has, for some time, produced automatic inspection routines for the Solibri product. This project will test how well the solutions serve the inspection of small buildings.
The third important aspect of the project is testing the human factor. Information is collected on how well the designers, building control authorities and parties undertaking the construction project adopt the new procedures.
Utilising the data to maintain a 3D city model can be considered as the fourth phase.
